Description
The Real-Time Power Management for TSO-DSO Operations service uses an integrated TSO-DSO network model to analyse how planned or simulated flexibility activations (particularly BESS) influence voltages, power flows, and disturbance propagation across the grid boundary. The service supports better coordination between transmission and distribution operators by helping both sides assess risks earlier and develop more coordinated power management strategies.
Core Capabilities
Predictive & Prescriptive Analytics
Optimization & Decision Support
Business Need
Flexibility activations on the distribution side — particularly battery energy storage systems — can create effects that propagate into the transmission network. Currently each operator has only partial visibility of the full system response, limiting the ability to anticipate cross-boundary impacts. The service improves shared understanding of TSO-DSO interactions and supports coordinated planning that reduces risks from uncoordinated flexibility activations.
Key Performance Indicators
Simulation accuracy for voltages and reactive power at TSO-DSO boundary points
Usefulness of scenario analyses for domain experts (qualitative assessment)
Handling of incomplete model data with appropriate uncertainty documentation
Coverage of worst-case operating situations in generated analyses
Data Provided
CIM-based network models from both TSO and DSO sides
Historical operational data and modifiable battery activation scenarios
Voltage and loading profiles, disturbance propagation assessments per scenario
Technical summaries of how specific flexibility activations affect the network
