ELES
Description
This service focuses on the interpretation and advanced analysis of disturbance events recorded by protection relays within the transmission power system. Using AI, the service processes and contextualises fault records to support protection system experts in detecting, reviewing, labelling, and classifying fault and non-fault events. By systematically organising protection relay event data, the service provides continuous situational awareness of transmission system conditions and enables consistent event classification across the network.
Core Capabilities
Monitoring & Anomaly Detection
Predictive & Prescriptive Analytics
Business Need
Protection system experts at ELES must manually review large volumes of COMTRADE oscillography records from protection relays following disturbance events. This analysis is time-intensive, requires deep specialist knowledge, and is difficult to scale as the network grows. The service automates the detection, classification, and correlation of fault events, reducing analysis time, improving consistency, and enabling experts to focus on complex cases requiring human judgement.
Key Performance Indicators
Classification accuracy: proportion of events correctly identified and classified by AI models
Event response time: elapsed time from ingestion of protection relay record to output presentation
Expert validation rate: proportion of outputs confirmed without revision by protection system experts
Data Provided
COMTRADE protection relay records (IEEE C37.111 format) containing oscillography and digital signals
Structured tables, oscillograms, and extracted parameters per disturbance event
Event metadata: system location, relay identification, timestamps, analogue and digital signal traces
Note: Service currently available for internal ELES use only; representative samples available to EnerTEF stakeholders via dedicated TEF TSO node storage
